Hello Dolls, today we address individually and personal style. In today’s society and social media driven world I find people have lost their sense of personal style. In my opinion (and remember this is not fact, but merely my opinion — which we are all entitled to have one), an abundance of us have lost our “own look”.
I myself have also fallen victim to this trend. I remember last year when I fell in love with what I call the “Mrs. West” look. The coveted style of Mrs. Kim Kardashian West, I went through my closet and hated everything that wasn’t a neutral color, pencil skirt, crop top, or single sole shoe. Fortunately, I only hated them and didn’t throw/give them away or I would have really wanted to “shoot” myself!
I see so many fashionistas today identifying with one look/trend/style. I too have been there, ladies, imprisoned to a look, while stifling, and suppressing my own personal style. I was so enthralled with the look, it made me hate my closet and want an entirely different wardrobe.
Then, in an eye opening moment and while playing dress up in my closet I realized I still liked my clothes! Especially considering most of the things I wanted to discard were new! It made me remember what I’d known all along, I am not defined by one look and definitely shouldn’t be influenced by trends. After all the more expensive fashion labels and houses are very reminiscent of styles of yesteryear. If you don’t believe me take a look at some old movies such as Mahogany, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Gentleman prefer Blondes, or one of my all-time favorites The Rose.
Looking at these movies you will be impressed to see how some of the fashions look modern and fresh. Which brings me to the point, as a fashionista we desire to SET THE TRENDS and are opposed to following them. While fashion is universal, your individuality will inspire and create new trends. Although, there is no denying a great piece/look, the idea of adding something to make it your own should always come into play when choosing your OOTD. After all, Mrs. West look (which is actually Monica Rose, her stylist or Kanye whom she has been known to give outfit credit to) became her own because she rocked it with her own twist.
Here are a few stylish women who evoke the concept of personal style. While these women can be seen rocking a lot of more “common” looks, they aren’t afraid to switch it up a bit while keeping it fashionable and chic. Don’t let one look define you. Fashion is art, music, life expression. And what better way to embrace all these attributes through fashion. Happy Shopping xoxoxo
