Spot86 Takes A Field Trip: Creative Africa
This past weekend, the Spot86 girls took a field trip to see Creative Africa at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Creative Africa explores a range of media including contemporary photography, fashion, and architecture by artists throughout Africa. Our favorite feature was Vlisco: African Fashion on a Global Stage, where we discovered the stories behind the textiles associated with African fashion.
Vlisco, a Dutch textile brand founded in 1846, made luxurious wax prints inspired by West and Central Africa. Vlisco textiles are known for their bold and colorful prints that intertwine tradition with luxury. This exhibition allows you to experience the company’s famous textile designs, along with a selection of contemporary fashions from African and European designers. Learn the different stories behind each print and discover how Vlisco became one of the most influential textile brands in African fashion and an international design inspiration.
